Job summary

Canopy Healthcare, Auckland, is seeking a Senior System Engineer to help shape a growing technical team as the group-wide digital transformation matures. The role covers on-premises, virtualised and public cloud infrastructure, network, database services and end-user compute.

You will diagnose, fix and optimise systems, apply SQL database knowledge to incident resolution, support Nutanix virtualization, and share knowledge to lift the team's capability.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in a multi-vendor IT service management or technology operations environment.
• Experience supporting on-premises, virtualised and public cloud environments.
• Broad knowledge of infrastructure, networking, databases and cloud technologies.
• Documentation skills and willingness to share knowledge across teams.

Responsibilities

• Provide high quality engineering and operational support across Canopy's technology environment.
• Maintain, optimise and troubleshoot network infrastructure including SD-WAN.
• Support virtualisation and storage platforms (e.g., Nutanix) and imaging storage.
• Collaborate in a multi-vendor IT service management setup and coach junior staff.

About the role

This role sits at the operational level of Canopy's groupwide digital transformation, helping shape a growing technical team as the underlying infrastructure matures.

The Senior System Engineer provides high quality technical engineering and operational support across the organisations technology environment, including:

• Technical support, maintenance and continuous improvement across on premise, virtualised and public cloud infrastructure
• Maintenance, optimisation and troubleshooting of network infrastructure, including SD WAN and related connectivity
• Systems engineering support across infrastructure, applications, database services, network services and end user compute
• Applying broad SQL database knowledge to incident resolution, performance analysis and service improvement
• Supporting virtualisation and storage platforms, including Nutanix or comparable systems, and high capacity online and offline imaging storage
• Knowledge sharing and coaching that lifts capability across a growing technical team
• Working collaboratively within a multi-vendor IT service management environment

The successful candidate will:

• Have the right attitude above all: calm under pressure and collaborative
• Be a generalist, equally comfortable across infrastructure, network, database and cloud rather than narrowly specialised in one domain
• Have solid multi-vendor, IT service management or technology operations experience
• Document well and share knowledge readily to help lift the standard of the wider team
• Have 5+ years in a multi-vendor, IT service management or technology operations environment
• Have demonstrated experience supporting on premise, virtualised and public cloud operational environments
• Bring broad SQL database experience and working knowledge of SD WAN and network infrastructure
• Hold current industry qualifications in systems engineering, infrastructure, networking, cloud, databases or a related discipline
• Have a relevant tertiary qualification, or equivalent commercial experience

Experience with Nutanix or comparable virtualisation platforms, high-capacity imaging storage environments, healthcare or another regulated technology environment, or large-scale digital transformation programmes are all a strong plus.
