Job summary

The Ministry of Justice is seeking an experienced policy professional to lead major policy work across Criminal Justice, Courts and Justice Services, and Civil and Constitutional policy. Based in Wellington, this fixed-term role offers the chance to shape thinking and drive legislative change.

Successful candidates will bring strong leadership and advisory capabilities, excellent communication, and the ability to work across government and with stakeholders to deliver impactful policy outcomes.

Qualifications

• Successful candidates will demonstrate leadership in significant policy projects and the ability to coach others.
• Extensive knowledge of machinery of government and public policy with critical thinking and risk testing.
• Excellent written and oral communication; ability to present complex issues accessibly and influence decision-makers.
• Strong skills in engaging diverse internal and external stakeholders and incorporating perspectives.

Responsibilities

• Lead major policy work across Criminal Justice, Courts & Justice Services, and Civil and Constitutional policy.
• Provide authoritative advice and support capability for advisors and senior advisors.
• Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders and shape policy debate.
• Contribute to programme leadership and rigorous policy analysis within a fast-paced government environment.
