Job summary

Department of Internal Affairs in Wellington seeks expressions of interest for Advisory & Policy roles in Ministerial Services. You will provide political and policy advice, build relationships with Ministers and Parliament, and help shape policy and legislation within a three-year term.

The roles require strong judgement, discretion and risk awareness, and will involve navigating complex information and advising decision-makers at the heart of government.

Qualifications

• Ability to analyse complex information, identify key issues and risks, and provide clear, practical advice.
• Experience developing policy and progressing this through to legislation.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills.
• Knowledge of the Official Information Act and policy development.

Responsibilities

• Provide general and political advice to Ministers on portfolio(s) aligned with Government objectives.
• Develop effective relationships with Ministers, Caucus, coalition and support parties to progress policy and legislation.
• Analyse information, identify key issues and risks, and provide clear, practical advice to support decision‑making.
• Contribute to decisions and initiatives at the heart of government and manage political and reputational risks.
