Job summary

Downer Group is seeking a skilled Mechanical or Electrical Engineer to join the Road Science engineering team in New Zealand. The role focuses on maintaining and improving assets, driving cost-effective upgrades and equipment standardisation across bitumen and asphalt plants.

You will lead large projects, manage maintenance programmes, and coordinate contractors while ensuring safety, compliance, and continuous improvement. Travel across NZ is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and practical experience in plant maintenance/manufacturing environments.
• Senior-level design and project execution skills with 10+ years' experience.
• Ability to manage multiple projects from design through to execution, ideally with project management qualifications.
• Strong understanding of plant processes and the interpretation of P&IDs or electrical schematics.

Responsibilities

• Lead capital upgrades, plant improvements, and asset optimisation initiatives with cost-effective maintenance solutions.
• Provide engineering support and manage projects including preventative programmes and documentation through CMMS systems.
• Coordinate contractors and collaborate with internal teams to deliver high-quality outcomes.
• Ensure compliance with legislation and standards, promote Zero Harm culture and manage project risks.
• Drive innovation by exploring new technologies to improve plant efficiency and energy use.
