Ki te ora te wai, ka ora te whenua, ka ora te tangata When the water is healthy, the land and the people are healthy

There's never been a better time to join Watercare. We're delivering a $15.2 billion, 10-year capital investment programme, the largest in our history, creating opportunities to work on transformative infrastructure, sustainability and digital projects that will shape Auckland's future. With more than $4 million invested every day, you'll be part of work that makes a lasting difference to our communities and environment.

He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About this role

As our Financial Asset Systems Accountant, you'll combine accounting expertise with practical systems experience to help improve how Watercare manages and reports its critical infrastructure assets. Alongside supporting fixed asset and wider ERP implementation, you'll take ownership of a significant part of the asset portfolio, with responsibility for capitalisation, revaluation, reporting and analysis. Working as part of the Financial Assets team, you'll provide practical advice and help deliver accurate, efficient and sustainable outcomes.

What you'll be doing

You'll manage the accounting and reporting for a significant part of Watercare's fixed asset portfolio while supporting the implementation and ongoing improvement of our fixed asset and wider ERP systems. As part of a collaborative Financial Assets team, you'll work across Finance, Technology, Infrastructure Delivery, GIS, Asset Information and Operations to translate accounting and reporting requirements into effective data structures, controls, processes and reporting.

You'll also:

  • Take ownership of capitalisation, revaluation, asset reporting, reconciliations and analysis for an assigned part of Watercare's asset portfolio.
  • For allocated areas, review commissioning evidence and asset classifications, follow up commissioned projects still in WIP and aged WIP, and complete monthly asset reconciliations, clearing reconciling items promptly.
  • Provide clear, practical advice on fixed asset accounting, system processes, data requirements and reporting outcomes.
  • Contribute to the design, configuration, testing and implementation of fixed asset functionality within a large ERP environment.
  • Prepare fixed asset disclosures, movement schedules and variance commentary, reconcile the asset register to the general ledger and disclosures, review depreciation budget and forecast inputs, and prepare audit deliverables and respond to auditor queries.
  • Support data migration, cleansing, reconciliation and validation, and improve the integration of project, procurement, general ledger and fixed asset processes.
  • Work with colleagues, users and implementation partners to resolve issues, embed new processes and support continuous improvement and successful adoption.
Ngā pūkenga e rapu nei mātou | About you

You'll be confident forming and explaining a technical view and also comfortable taking ownership of your portfolio responsibilities while contributing as part of a supportive and collaborative team.

You'll ideally have:

  • A degree in Accounting or Finance, together with a recognised professional accounting qualification.
  • Hands-on experience with fixed asset systems or fixed asset modules within a large enterprise system.
  • Experience contributing to a systems implementation, upgrade or major process transformation, including requirements, testing, data migration, reconciliation or deployment support.
  • Sound fixed asset accounting knowledge, including capitalisation, depreciation, transfers, disposals, revaluation, impairment, reconciliations, reporting and analysis.
  • Statutory reporting experience, strength in complex reconciliations and advanced Excel skills, with experience of fixed asset modules in a large ERP platform such as SAP, Oracle or Infor.
  • A collaborative approach and a focus on data quality, robust controls, clear documentation and continuous improvement.
