Job summary

Silverdale Mechanical Engineering in Auckland is seeking a senior Diesel Mechanic to stay hands-on in the workshop while training to become the future General Manager. You will split your time between diagnosing complex faults, mentoring the team, and learning the operational and commercial sides of the business directly from our current GM.

You will lead diagnostics, stay hands-on with high-level work, mentor mechanics and apprentices, and train for management through customer management,

Qualifications

• Expert diesel knowledge across trucks and commercial vehicles.
• Master diagnostician with fault-finding skills across mechanical and electrical systems.
• Natural leadership with mentoring and team development abilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical diagnostics - solve complex mechanical and electrical faults.
• Stay hands-on - perform high-level diagnostic work in the workshop.
• Mentor the team - provide guidance and troubleshooting support to mechanics and apprentices.
• Train for management - learn customer management, workshop performance, pricing, profitability, and staff leadership.
