Job summary

Truck Stops (NZ) Ltd, part of the Sime Motors group, seeks a Senior Diesel Technician to supervise a workshop of technicians and apprentices. The role blends hands-on heavy-truck work (80%) with administrative support (20%), enabling high-quality service and minimal downtime.

You will mentor staff, drive safety, and lead with problem-solving, aiming for continuous improvement and career growth within the Truck Stops and Sime Motors network.

Qualifications

• Previous workshop experience at a senior level mentoring others.
• Hands-on experience with heavy-duty trucks with an understanding of WIPs.
• A strong commitment to safety and a proactive mindset.
• Excellent problem-solving skills to tackle challenges head-on.
• Ideally, a Class 5 license (we can help you get it!).
• NZQA in Heavy Road Transport or Heavy Plant & Equipment.
• Reliability and willingness to commit to the team.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate the day-to-day workflow of our skilled technicians and apprentices.
• Mentor and develop the team to maximise resources and minimise downtime.
• Hands-on work with heavy-duty trucks while ensuring safety and quality standards.
• Assist Service and Branch managers with administrative tasks to keep the workshop humming.
