Job summary

Foodstuffs NZ is seeking a Senior Centralised Payroll Support to join the People & Capability team. You’ll deliver accurate, consistent payroll support to our member network and act as a trusted contact for practical guidance, technical queries and issue resolution.

In this role you’ll provide payroll support to stores, undertake peer reviews, investigate issues, deliver training and support during peak periods, contributing to continuous improvement and transformation programmes.

Qualifications

• Experienced payroll professional with strong accuracy and customer focus.
• Knowledge of payroll controls and NZ payroll practices including PAYE, ACC, parental leave.
• Ability to explain complex information clearly and build trusted relationships.

Responsibilities

• Provide trusted payroll support to stores via centralised payroll service.
• Conduct payroll peer reviews and quality checks to improve accuracy and consistency.

Te Tūranga – About the role

As our Senior Centralised Payroll Support, you’ll be part of a future-focused People & Capability team delivering accurate, consistent and customer-led payroll support to our member network. You’ll build trusted relationships with a portfolio of stores and act as a key contact for practical guidance, technical queries and issue resolution.

This varied role will see you:

• Provide trusted payroll support and practical guidance to stores using our centralised payroll service
• Undertake payroll peer reviews and quality checks to improve accuracy, consistency and confidence across the service
• Investigate payroll issues, recommend practical solutions and help reduce recurring errors
• Deliver payroll training, support new Centralised Payroll Specialists and provide service cover during leave, absences or peak periods
• Contribute to continuous improvement, store ownership changes and future ways of working through transformation programmes.

The position may also process payroll for stores joining the centralised service and support payroll records, reporting and PAYE requirement.

He kōrero mōu - About you

You’ll be an experienced payroll professional with a strong eye for accuracy, sound knowledge of payroll controls and a customer-focused approach. You’ll be confident working through technical issues, explaining complex information clearly and building trusted relationships with stores and internal partners.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

• A strong payroll background, preferably gained within a medium-to-large organisation
• Experience completing payroll checks, peer reviews or quality-assurance activities
• Strong knowledge of the New Zealand Holidays Act, employment legislation and payroll practices, including PAYE, ACC and parental leave
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, planning and communication skills
• PayGlobal or SAP payroll knowledge, with NZPPA certification considered an advantage

Experience in retail or another customer-focused organisation would also be valuable. Most importantly, you’ll bring a collaborative working style, an improvement mindset and the confidence to provide guidance while maintaining a clear focus on payroll accuracy and controls.
