Job summary

Auckland Council in Auckland CBD is seeking a Senior Building Surveyor within the Project Assessment team to guide and mentor a processing team while ensuring efficient consent processing for residential and commercial projects.

You will lead on reviewing consent plans, coaching staff, developing training, and driving improvements in performance and output quality, while ensuring compliance with Building Act and related legislation.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in the building industry, preferably in a BCA environment.
• Regulation 18 compliant qualifications and technical competency (Com1 or above).
• Proven history of elevating team skills, boosting operational performance and enhancing quality of delivered outcomes.
• Comprehensive knowledge of building-related fields, including design/construction principles and practices.
• Familiarity with Building Act 2004, Local Government Act 2002, and Resource Management Act 1991.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent planning and prioritisation abilities.
• High numeracy and strong process orientation.

Responsibilities

• Reviewing building consent plans and making informed compliance decisions.
• Mentoring and coaching processing officers on technical matters.
• Developing and implementing training initiatives to enhance team skills.
• Collaborating with team leaders and managers to identify and address non-conformance issues.
• Driving measurable improvements across team capability, operational performance, and the overall quality of outputs.
