Job summary

Auckland Council's Assessment Team within the Capability Unit is seeking an experienced Competency/Technical Assessor for Building Consents. You will shape capability and technical excellence of council staff through assessment, coaching, audits and training.

Reporting to the Team Leader - Assessment, you will perform NCAS-based assessments, conduct audits under Building Reg 17, and develop training plans while ensuring compliance with the Building Act and accreditation requirements.

Qualifications

• Experience in building related regulatory services gained through commercial building inspections or plan processing.
• Strong process orientation with sound judgment and decision making to support continuous business improvement.
• Resilient and adaptable with calm, solutions-focused decision making in complex situations.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and report-writing; ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
• Familiarity with NCAS and pro-active participation in accreditation activities.

Responsibilities

• Perform technical assessments of staff against the National Competency Assessment Framework (NCAS) under Building Regs. 10 & 11.
• Conduct technical audits under Building Reg. 17.
• Analyse audit and competency outcomes to identify training needs and develop plans.
• Collaborate with operational teams to develop and deliver training ensuring compliance with BCA accreditation and the Building Act.
• Engage in continuous improvement activities and contribute to policies and accreditation work.
