Job summary

Join Our Team, Waikato is seeking an experienced Senior/Building Control Officer Processing for our Thames office in a full-time permanent role. You will assess building consent applications, review plans, and provide technical guidance to applicants and professionals to ensure safe, compliant buildings.

The role requires knowledge of the Building Act 2004, NZ Building Code, and the ability to interpret legislation while delivering excellent customer service in a fast-paced local government

Qualifications

• Experience in Building Consent Processing or Building Control within a NZ local government environment.
• Qualification in Building Control (or currently working towards this).
• Sound knowledge of the Building Act 2004, NZ Building Code and associated regulations.
• Proven ability to interpret legislation and apply it in a practical and consistent way.

Responsibilities

• Assess and process building consent applications in accordance with the Building Act 2004.
• Review plans and supporting documentation, making sound compliance decisions.
• Provide technical advice and guidance to applicants, builders, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders.
• Manage consent applications efficiently, ensuring statutory timeframes are achieved.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation within Council systems.
• Deliver excellent customer service and respond to building-related enquiries.
• Contribute to quality assurance, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Build strong working relationships with customers, industry professionals, and internal teams.
