Job summary

Thames-Coromandel District Council is seeking an experienced Building Control Officer Processing to join the Building Unit in Thames in a permanent, full-time role. You will assess, process and decide on building consent applications, provide technical guidance, and help ensure homes and buildings are safe and compliant.

You'll work with applicants, builders, architects and engineers, managing workflows to meet statutory timeframes and maintain records.

Qualifications

• Experience in Building Consent Processing or Building Control within a NZ local government
• Qualification in Building Control (or currently working towards this)
• Sound knowledge of Building Act 2004 and New Zealand Building Code
• Ability to interpret legislation in practical, consistent ways
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong attention to detail and time management
• Commitment to continuous learning and professional development

Responsibilities

• Assess and process building consent applications in accordance with the Building Act 2004
• Review plans and documentation, making sound compliance decisions
• Provide technical advice to applicants, builders, architects, engineers and other stakeholders
• Manage consent applications efficiently to meet statutory timeframes
• Maintain accurate records and documentation within Council systems
• Deliver excellent customer service and respond to building-related enquiries
• Contribute to quality assurance, audits and continuous improvement
• Build strong relationships with customers, industry professionals and internal teams
