Job summary

The Financial Markets Authority (FMA) is seeking a Principal Adviser, Banking (Deposit Taking) in Wellington. You will shape how conduct regulation comes to life across Aotearoa’s deposit-taking sector and provide technical leadership for the team.

You’ll bring deep knowledge of conduct regulation, strong judgement, and a collaborative approach to work with banks, non-bank deposit takers, regulators and internal stakeholders to improve outcomes for consumers and markets.

Qualifications

• Strong experience in conduct regulation, supervision, risk, compliance, audit or related financial services.
• Ability to navigate complex issues, apply sound judgement and provide practical advice.
• Experience coaching and mentoring teams within a regulatory context.

Responsibilities

• Provide visible, enthusiastic technical leadership within the Deposit Taking team.
• Research and share knowledge on Deposit Taking industry developments, business models and consumer protection.
• Draft and operationalise supervision approaches and plans with leadership support.
• Mentor and develop the Deposit Taking team.
• Build relationships with industry participants, regulators and internal stakeholders.
• Use data and insights to improve supervision processes and tools.
