Job summary

Grada Recruitment is seeking a Senior Architect to join an in-house design team in New Zealand. You will oversee architectural design for commercial and retail projects, collaborating across departments and construction teams to drive concepts through to delivery.

The role emphasizes end-to-end involvement, mentorship of junior staff, and leveraging BIM360 and AI-enabled workflows in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Strong commercial project experience across lifecycle.
• Revit experience preferred.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder presentation skills.
• Adaptable and fast-paced environment.
• Open to transferable experience from non-retail backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage architectural design on commercial and retail projects from concept through to construction delivery.
• Work collaboratively across departments and directly alongside the construction team.
• Mentor and support junior and intermediate team members.
• Maintain strong stakeholder relationships and represent design standards internally.
• Use BIM360, cloud-based tools, and emerging AI workflows as part of day-to-day delivery.

My client is one of New Zealand's largest privately owned retail property development and management companies, with a portfolio spanning major town centres across Auckland and Tauranga. They run an internalized in-house Design & Architecture division, giving the team full visibility across the project lifecycle, from concept through to construction, working hands-on with tools like BIM360, cloud laser scanning, and AI-integrated workflows, and collaborating directly with the construction team.

We're looking for a Senior Architect to join a collaborative studio structure within this in-house team, working across multiple projects and departments rather than being siloed into a single task type. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants genuine end-to-end involvement in projects, working alongside construction teams to see designs through to delivery.

• Revit experience preferred

• Motivated, adaptable, and comfortable in a fast-paced environment
• Open to candidates from outside a retail/commercial background who bring strong transferable experience
