Job summary

Reserve Bank of New Zealand is seeking a Senior Advisor - Actuarial to provide authoritative actuarial advice and technical support to prudential supervisors and management. The role focuses on insurer solvency, financial position, emerging risks and crisis management, with engagement across domestic and international regulators.

You will develop risk-based frameworks, lead thematic reviews and mentor junior colleagues while collaborating with licensed insurers and industry bodies.

Qualifications

• Actuarial qualification and/or professional membership.
• Post-qualification actuarial experience.
• Strong analytical and conceptual skills.
• Ability to design and implement strategies.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management.
• Experience mentoring junior staff.
• Knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
• Eligible for NZ National Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Act as a reviewing actuary for licensing and supervisory matters with solvency focus.
• Identify distress signals within insurers or the sector.
• Develop risk-based frameworks for effective oversight of insurance.
• Contribute to solvency-related policy work and wider Financial Stability initiatives.
• Lead thematic reviews and provide actuarial input.
• Engage with insurers, actuaries, industry bodies and regulators.
• Mentor junior colleagues and share actuarial knowledge.
• Build internal and external advocacy with high-quality technical advice.
