Job summary

Specialist SEND Group is seeking a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant for a mainstream primary school in Leigh. The role involves 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with a range of SEND, helping them access learning and build confidence in an inclusive classroom.

The ideal candidate has experience with SEND, a patient and caring nature, and a good understanding of safeguarding. DBS and right to work in the UK are required, with potential for long-term placements.

Responsibilities

• Build positive relationships to promote confidence, wellbeing and independence.
• Work with the class teacher and SENCO to implement support plans and targets.
• Use visual aids and sensory strategies to encourage engagement.
• Promote positive behaviour with a calm and nurturing approach.
• Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to staff.
• Help create an inclusive, safe learning environment.

Full Job Description

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with additional needs?

Specialist SEND Group is looking for a dedicated and nurturing SEND Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming mainstream primary school. This is a fantastic opportunity to support pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), helping them to access learning, develop confidence, and reach their full potential within an inclusive classroom environment.

This is a full-time role, working Monday to Friday during school hours, where you will provide tailored support to learners both on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.

The Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, You Will

• Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with a range of SEND, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, Speech and Language needs, SEMH and learning difficulties.
• Support pupils to access the curriculum through differentiated learning and personalised strategies.
• Build positive, trusting relationships that promote confidence, wellbeing and independence.
• Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement support plans and individual targets.
• Use visual aids, sensory strategies and other interventions to encourage engagement and participation.
• Promote positive behaviour using a calm, consistent and nurturing approach.
• Monitor and record pupil progress, providing feedback to teaching staff.
• Help create an inclusive, safe and supportive learning environment where every child can thrive.

We Are Looking For Someone Who

• Has previous experience supporting children with SEND in a school or similar setting.
• Holds a Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2 or Level 3 desirable but not essential with relevant experience).
• Has a patient, caring and resilient nature.
• Can build strong relationships with pupils, families and colleagues.
• Has a good understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities.
• Is confident supporting children with a range of additional needs.
• Is committed to helping every child achieve their individual potential.

Essential Requirements

• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
• Right to work in the UK.
• Ability to provide satisfactory references covering the last two years.
• A genuine passion for supporting children with SEND.
