Job description

Jora New Zealand will close on 9th September 2026. Thank you for being with us, we are cheering you on as you continue your career journey.

Second In Charge - Electrical | Step into Leadership - 9 Day Fortnight

X Electrical Services Ltd – Hamilton, North Island

Are you a 5+ years fully qualified electrician who's ready for the next step up? Maybe you didn't expect that step to come with a shift to Hamilton — good schools, an easy commute, a lower cost of living than the big cities, and a path into leadership that doesn't mean starting your own business to get there.

Or maybe you've run your own electrical business, and you're done with all the to-dos — quoting at 9pm, the phone that never stops, the buck that always stops with you.

Either way — you know the trade inside out, you're good with people, and what you want now is to hand on what you know and be involved in building a great culture within a growing team.

You'll do well in this role if you can handle any style of quote, and would rather be teaching an apprentice how to leave a switchboard properly than doing one more panel yourself.

About the role:

We're looking for a Second in Charge (2IC) to work alongside our director, Jaxon, and take real ownership of three things: quoting, scheduling, and on-the-job mentoring.

You'll be on the tools and billable around 40% of the time. The rest is where you make a big difference to our culture, growth and success: turning quotes around fast so good leads don't go cold, having next week's schedule locked before this week ends, and being the person the team come to first when something needs sorting on site.

This role will be based on a 9-day fortnight, with one person in the leadership team in the office each day and one on the road, so there's continuity for our team and customers to deliver our awesome customer service.

This isn't a role where success is measured by how much you personally get through. It's measured by how much smoother the business runs because you're in it, and by the quality the team delivers as a result.

What you'll bring:

  • NZ Registration and Practicing License, with solid experience behind you
  • A full driver's licence
  • The ability and the drive to hand on your knowledge to less experienced electricians and apprentices
  • High standards for your own work and comfort holding others to the same
  • Strong communication skills, with customers and the team
  • A natural belief in being a lifetime learner — our industry is always changing, and we intend to keep leading the way in the solutions we are able to deliver
  • Previous leadership, supervisory, or small business experience is a real advantage — but a strong tradesperson ready to grow into it is just as welcome

About X Electrical:

We're a growing, Hamilton-based residential electrical business, working across Hamilton and the wider Waikato. We're a husband-and-wife-run team who care about doing things properly — for our team, and for our customers. We've built a business based around strong values of excellence, teamwork and going that little bit extra. It means that our team feel valued, apprentices get a real shot at becoming excellent tradespeople, and we all know what's expected without needing to be chased.

If that sounds like the environment you want to help build, we'd love to hear from you.

What's on offer:

  • $45–$50 per hour, depending on experience
  • Performance-based quarterly bonus (up to 10% of base salary)
  • 9-day fortnight
  • Company work vehicle and phone
  • A genuine leadership pathway, with a bonus structure tied to the results you help create
  • A supportive, values-led team where your experience will be respected and used

Applicants must have the right to work in NZ and be able to show proof of this.
