Senior Estimator – Electrical

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Electrical Estimator to join an established and growing electrical contracting business based in Hamilton.
This is an opportunity to step into a key role where you’ll combine estimating, design, project management, commercial oversight and client relationships across a diverse range of mid-to-large electrical projects throughout the Hamilton, Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions.

About the role
Working closely with clients, consultants, suppliers and internal delivery teams, you’ll be responsible for developing competitive tenders, providing technical solutions and ensuring projects are commercially successful.
You’ll have the opportunity to take ownership of projects while working closely with senior leadership.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare accurate estimates, tenders, quotations, budgets and project variations.
- Estimate and manage mid-range to large electrical projects.
- Design electrical services and infrastructure solutions.
- Interpret plans, specifications and contract documentation.
- Develop and maintain drawings and project documentation.
- Prepare professional technical documentation and job packs for project handover.
- Manage awarded projects through planning, delivery, cost control, invoicing and completion.
- Monitor project profitability and undertake post-project cost reviews.
- Coordinate the production of as-built documentation.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, suppliers and internal teams.
- Attend project, design and management meetings.
- Negotiate with suppliers to achieve competitive pricing.
- Identify new business opportunities and contribute to business development.
- Provide technical support to field teams, including specialist electrical systems where required.
- Ensure projects are delivered to the required quality, safety and compliance standards.
- Support continuous improvement, training and professional development.
About you
We’re looking for an experienced electrical professional who can combine strong technical knowledge with commercial awareness.
You will ideally have:
- NZ Electrical Registration and a current Practising Licence.
- Minimum 5 years' electrical industry experience.
- Proven experience estimating and managing mid-range to large electrical projects.
- Strong knowledge of commercial electrical installations and infrastructure.
- A thorough understanding of AS/NZS 3000:2018 and associated standards.
- Knowledge of specialist requirements, including medical and generation systems.
- Strong ability to interpret electrical drawings, specifications and contracts.
- CAD experience is preferred.
- Strong commercial and financial awareness with a focus on project profitability.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to manage multiple tenders, projects and deadlines.
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.
- A team-first attitude and the ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders.
