Job summary

Swanson School in New Zealand is seeking a hands-on Maintenance Officer to keep our classrooms, halls, grounds, and equipment in excellent condition. You will perform a range of repairs, manage contractors, and help with upgrades while ensuring safety and a welcoming environment for students and staff.

The role requires practical trade experience, strong problem-solving, and the ability to work independently in a busy school setting.

Qualifications

  • Experience in building, engineering, carpentry, property maintenance, or a related trade.
  • Strong practical problem-solving skills and the ability to perform a wide range of maintenance tasks.
  • Highly organised and self-managing.
  • Able to prioritise work, manage competing demands, and work independently.
  • A proactive "can-do" attitude with a willingness to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in.
  • Honest, approachable, and dependable.
  • Comfortable working in a busy school environment surrounded by children.
  • Builds positive relationships with staff, students, contractors, and the wider school community.
  • Enjoys interacting with children and understands the importance of creating a safe and welcoming environment for them.
  • Physically fit and able to undertake hands-on maintenance work.
  • Willing and able to undergo a Police Vetting check as required for working within a school environment.
  • Full New Zealand driver's licence preferred.
