Job summary

Possum Boutique is a Wellington retailer specialising in premium natural‑fibre clothing and accessories, including possum merino, merino and alpaca. Our Lambton Quay store offers a small team where your contribution is visible and valued.

We are seeking an experienced Full-Time Sales Assistant for a 40-hour-per-week Sunday to Thursday role, delivering friendly customer service, sales, stock management, and store presentation.

Qualifications

We are looking for an experienced Full-Time Sales Assistant to join our Lambton Quay team.

This is a 40-hour-per-week, Sunday to Thursday position for someone who enjoys the full scope of retail. You will be responsible for delivering excellent customer service and sales while also contributing to the presentation, visual merchandising, stock management and day-to-day operation of the store.

This is not a role where you'll simply wait for customers to walk through the door. We are looking for someone who is proactive, commercially aware and takes ownership of their area of the store.

Previous experience as a Shift Supervisor, 2IC or in a similar position would be an advantage. There will be times when you are required to work independently and take additional responsibility for the store.

About the role

What you'll be doing

Customer service & sales

• Providing knowledgeable, attentive service and building genuine rapport with customers

• Understanding customer needs and confidently recommending products

• Developing strong product knowledge across possum merino, merino, alpaca and other natural fibres

• Explaining the qualities, benefits and care of our products

• Delivering a premium customer experience from first interaction through to purchase

Visual merchandising & store presentation

• Maintaining a consistently high standard of visual presentation throughout the store

• Following and contributing to visual merchandising standards, including product placement, displays, colour stories and promotional areas

• Keeping fixtures, tables and displays organised, replenished and commercially presented

• Ensuring stock is presented at its best and the store remains inviting throughout the trading day

• Using initiative to identify when displays or product presentation need attention

Store operations

• Processing sales and using our point-of-sale and retail systems

• Replenishing, organising and checking stock

• Assisting with opening and closing procedures

• Picking, checking and packing online customer orders

• Ensuring online orders are accurate and ready for dispatch

• Maintaining high standards of store organisation and housekeeping

• Taking responsibility for the smooth running of the store when required

• Working closely with the wider team and contributing to a positive and professional store environment

What we're looking for

• Has previous retail or customer-service experience
• Is confident approaching customers and guiding them through a considered purchase
• Takes genuine pride in delivering a high standard of customer service
• Has an eye for presentation and an interest in visual merchandising
• Understands how product presentation can influence the customer experience and sales
• Has an interest in quality clothing, natural fibres and New Zealand-made products
• Is confident developing and communicating product knowledge
• Is proactive and able to use initiative rather than waiting to be told what needs doing
• Is reliable, organised and highly attentive to detail
• Can work confidently and independently when required
• Enjoys being part of a small team and contributes positively to the working environment
• Is comfortable using computers, POS and other retail systems
• Is happy to get involved in all aspects of retail, including stock handling and online fulfilment
• Has previous experience as a Shift Supervisor, 2IC or in a similar position, which would be an advantage
• Is available to work Sunday to Thursday on a permanent basis
