Job summary

Possum Boutique in Wellington's Lambton Quay is seeking a Part-Time Sales Assistant to join our team. This varied retail role blends customer service, sales, stock management and online order fulfilment while maintaining our premium natural-fibre presentation.

You will help customers find products, assist with visual merchandising, replenish stock and process online orders. Hours include weekends and rostered shifts; flexibility is important, and you must have the right to work in New Zealand.

Qualifications

• Previous customer-service experience, preferably in retail.
• Friendly and approachable manner with good communication.
• Reliable, organised and detail-oriented; capable of handling multiple tasks.
• Interest in quality clothing and natural-fibre products; NZ-made orientation.

Job description

We are looking for a Part-Time Sales Assistant to join our Lambton Quay team.

This is a varied retail role combining customer service and sales, visual merchandising, store presentation, stock management and online order fulfilment.

You will spend time on the shop floor helping customers find the right products, but you'll also be involved in the practical work that keeps a busy retail store running well. That might mean replenishing a display, preparing an online order, receiving and organising stock or making sure the store is looking its best before the next customer walks through the door.

Hours will be rostered and will include weekend work. There are no set days of work, so flexibility and availability across the week are important.

What you'll be doing

Customer service & sales

• Providing knowledgeable, friendly and attentive service

• Building rapport with customers and helping them find products that suit their needs

• Developing product knowledge across possum merino, merino, alpaca and other natural fibres

• Explaining the qualities, benefits and care of our products

• Helping customers feel confident about their purchases

• Processing sales and using our point-of-sale system

Visual merchandising & store presentation

• Maintaining a high standard of visual presentation throughout the store

• Keeping tables, fixtures and displays organised, replenished and commercially presented

• Assisting with visual merchandising, product placement and promotional displays

• Ensuring products are presented at their best throughout the trading day

• Taking initiative when displays, stock presentation or housekeeping need attention

Online & store operations

• Picking, checking and packing online customer orders

• Ensuring online orders are accurate and ready for dispatch

• Replenishing, organising and checking stock

• Supporting the day-to-day operation of the store

• Maintaining high standards of store organisation and presentation

• Working closely with the wider team to keep the store running smoothly

What we're looking for

We're looking for someone who enjoys retail and understands that good retail is about people, product and presentation.

You’ll be someone who:

• Has previous customer-service experience, preferably in retail

• Enjoys engaging with customers and helping them make confident purchasing decisions

• Has a friendly and approachable manner and communicates well

• Takes pride in providing a high standard of service

• Has an eye for presentation and an interest in visual merchandising

• Is interested in quality clothing, natural fibres and New Zealand-made products

• Is reliable, organised and pays close attention to detail

• Can manage different tasks throughout the day and recognise what needs doing

• Is comfortable working independently as well as part of a small team

• Is confident using computers and willing to learn retail and online systems

• Is comfortable with the practical side of retail, including stock handling and online order fulfilment

• Is flexible with availability and able to work rostered hours, including weekends
