Job summary

Musterrecruit is seeking a practical Automotive Technician for its Christchurch team. This hands-on, mobile role will attend roadside breakdowns across the Christchurch area, providing practical solutions to get customers back on the road.

You’ll work independently on the road with a wider service team, handling jump starts, battery fitment and basic mechanical diagnosis, while delivering calm, professional service to customers in stressful situations.

Qualifications

• Strong automotive knowledge and practical ability.
• Level 3 or 4 automotive qualification preferred, or strong hands-on experience.
• Full, clean New Zealand driver licence.
• Comfortable working autonomously and managing workload.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Attend emergency roadside breakdowns across Christchurch.
• Carry out jump starts and battery fitment.
• Assist with tyre changes and tyre repair kits.
• Provide vehicle unlocking and out-of-fuel assistance.
• Complete basic mechanical diagnosis and roadside repairs.
• Keep your service vehicle, tools, equipment and stock ready for callouts.
• Record accurate job and customer information.
• Prioritise urgent jobs and work safely under pressure.
• Provide calm, professional service to customers in stressful situations.

Musterrecruit - Christchurch, South Island

A well-established roadside assistance provider is looking for a practical and customer-focused Automotive Technician to join its Christchurch team.

This is a hands-on, mobile role where no two days are quite the same.

You'll attend roadside breakdowns across the Christchurch area, helping customers when they need it most and providing practical solutions to get them safely back on the road.

From jump starts and wheel changes through to vehicle lockouts, battery fitment and basic mechanical diagnosis, you'll be working independently out on the road while supported by a wider service team.

This opportunity would suit someone with a strong automotive background who enjoys problem-solving, working autonomously and dealing directly with customers.

• Up to $37 per hour, depending on experience

The Role

About You

• Good automotive knowledge and practical mechanical ability
• Level 3 or 4 automotive qualification preferred, or strong hands-on automotive experience
• Confident carrying out basic vehicle diagnosis and roadside repairs
• Full, clean New Zealand driver licence
• Comfortable working autonomously and managing your own workload
• Able to work the 4 days on, 4 days off roster from 8am-7pm
• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Reliable, safety-conscious and professional
