Job summary

South Waikato District Council is seeking a collaborative Roading Team Leader to manage a safe, accessible transport network across roads, bridges, lighting, cycleways and walkways in Tokoroa, Waikato. You will lead four technical professionals and report to the Assets and Engineering Services Manager.

Qualifications include a civil/transport engineering background and at least 5 years in transport contract management.

Qualifications

• A tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, Transport Engineering, or a related discipline or significant demonstrated experience in transport infrastructure management.
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in contract and project management within transport, roading, or civil infrastructure projects.
• Hands-on experience working with NZS 3910, 3916, or 3917 standard contracts.
• Demonstrated leadership ability or clear potential, with the capacity to supervise, handle performance management, and develop a technical team.
• Sound working knowledge of local authority transport practices, including Waka Kotahi (NZTA) guidelines, Austroads, and RITS.

Responsibilities

• Lead the management of a safe, accessible, and resilient transport network, including roads, bridges, lights, cycleways, and walkways.
• Oversee procurement and contract management, and manage long-term contractor relationships per NZS standards.
• Provide regular asset engagement, RAMM data updates, and monthly reporting to Executive and Council.
• Guide and develop a team of four technical professionals to deliver on time and within budget.
