Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children is seeking a Youth Justice Coordinator in the Greater Wellington region. You will manage Family Group Conferences (FGCs) under the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989, working with tamariki, rangatahi, whānau and the community to address underlying causes of offending.

The role requires travel within the region and a commitment to manaaki, restorative practice, and partnerships with hapū/iwi and Māori organisations. A full NZ driver licence is required.

Qualifications

• Strong community youth networks with an ability to connect and build strong trusting relationships with tamariki, rangatahi, whānau and Community
• Strong facilitation skills with the ability to plan, identify appropriate supports and apply relevant FGC (family group conference) standards and practices throughout this process
• The preferred candidate would benefit from having a general understanding of the Youth Justice pathway, or proven experience working with tamariki/youth aged between 14 to 18 years in a similar capacity
• Ability to self-direct and manage own workload with clear communication - including strong report writing skills
• Champion the principles of the Oranga Tamariki Māori Cultural Framework and have a good understanding of The Oranga Tamariki Act
• Ability to uphold the principles of Te tiriti ō Waitangi and demonstrating this in practice
• A full, clean, current New Zealand driver licence (historic convictions may be considered on a case-by-case basis)
• Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices in particular; knowledge of tikanga Māori, and Pacific peoples' culture
• Ability to work as part of a (Youth Justice Coordinator) team across the wider Greater Wellington region

Responsibilities

• As a Youth Justice Coordinator, you will be responsible for managing Family Group Conferences (FGCs) in accordance with the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989.
• You will work with tamariki and rangatahi, whānau and the wider community to address the underlying causes which have led to the offending of tamariki and rangatahi.
• This role may require you to travel to other areas in our region. You will need to be flexible with work and travel.
