Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Subsurface Data Scientist to join a fully remote, international team developing advanced ML models for seismic interpretation, well log analysis, and production forecasting. You will work with geoscientists, reservoir engineers, and IT professionals to unlock insights from complex subsurface datasets.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in data science, strong Python or R skills, and hands-on ML experience with TensorFlow/PyTorch and data visualization tools.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in a quantitative field related to data science.
• Minimum of 5 years' experience applying ML and statistical modeling.
• Proficiency in Python or R and core libraries (scikit-learn, Pandas).
• Experience with large subsurface datasets or Oil & Gas data preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deploy ML models for seismic interpretation and well log analysis.
• Process and integrate large subsurface datasets from diverse sources.
• Collaborate with geoscientists and engineers to define analytical approaches.
• Perform statistical analysis and create data visualizations to reveal insights.
• Design experiments and A/B tests to assess model performance and impact.
• Build data pipelines and automate model deployment workflows.
• Communicate complex findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Stay updated on advances in ML and AI applicable to subsurface data.
• Contribute to data governance and reproducible research practices.
• Document methodologies, code, and results for knowledge sharing.
