Job summary

Placements24 has a client seeking a Remote Industrial Safety Officer to lead health and safety programs across manufacturing sites from a remote setting. You will ensure regulatory compliance, perform remote risk assessments, investigations, and drive safety training to employees at multiple levels.

The ideal candidate will have 4–6 years in industrial safety, strong knowledge of SA OHS legislation, and excellent remote communication skills to support management and staff across sites.

Qualifications

• National Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field.
• Minimum of 4-6 years of experience as an Industrial Safety Officer or in a similar health and safety role within a manufacturing environment.
• In-depth knowledge of South African occupational health and safety legislation (e.g., OHS Act).
• Proven experience in conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and developing safety procedures.
• Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal skills, essential for remote interaction.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficiency in using safety management software and standard office productivity tools.
• Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritize tasks in a remote setting.
• Commitment to promoting a strong safety culture.
• Professional registration with relevant bodies (e.g., SAIOSH) is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive health and safety programs in accordance with relevant legislation and industry best practices.
• Conduct remote risk assessments, site inspections, and safety audits to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
• Investigate workplace accidents, incidents, and near misses, determining root causes and implementing preventative measures.
• Develop and deliver safety training programs to employees at various operational levels.
• Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training, incident reports, and compliance documentation.
• Ensure compliance with all local, regional, and national health and safety regulations.
• Promote a positive safety culture through engagement, communication, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Advise management on health and safety matters and support the implementation of safety policies.
• Stay updated on changes in safety legislation and industry standards.
• Collaborate effectively with site management and employees to address safety concerns and implement solutions remotely.
