Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Remote Senior HSE Officer to lead HSE management across energy projects. You will develop, implement, and enforce policies, conduct risk assessments, investigations, and training to foster a proactive safety culture.

The role requires SA regulatory knowledge, strong communication skills, and the ability to work autonomously from a remote setting with occasional site travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or Engineering.
• Minimum 7 years of HSE management experience in energy or construction.
• Experience developing and implementing HSE policies for large-scale projects.
• Strong knowledge of SA HSE legislation (OHS Act, NEMA) and ISO standards (ISO 14001, ISO 45001).
• Proficient in risk assessment methodologies and incident investigations.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Strong communication and influencing skills across all levels of staff.
• Experience with HSE software and standard office applications.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive HSE management systems for energy projects.
• Conduct site risk assessments, hazard identification, and safety audits.
• Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses; determine root causes and corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver HSE training programs for employees and contractors.
• Ensure compliance with national and international HSE regulations and standards relevant to energy.
• Monitor environmental impact and ensure adherence to environmental policies.
• Prepare and submit regular HSE reports with KPIs and action plans.
• Serve as primary contact for HSE matters with clients, regulators, and project teams.
• Promote a strong safety culture and proactive hazard reporting.
