Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is seeking a Registered Sterile Technician to join the Sterile Sciences Department in Lower Hutt. The role involves reprocessing reusable medical devices for operating theatres and endoscopy, with rostered and rotating shifts including weekends.

The successful candidate will hold Sterilising Technology Level 4 (or Level 3 if prior to 2019) and, ideally, GENCA Endoscopy qualifications; training for Endoscopy requirements can be provided.

• Ideally have GENCA Endoscopy qualifications in addition to the above; full training can be provided in Endoscopy requirements.

About the Role

Salary: SECA 2026 Step 3-7 of $73,876--$88,887 for a qualified technician and dependent upon level of experience, pro rata. The Sterile Sciences Department (SSD) are seeking a professional and team focused qualified Registered Sterile Technician to work in our sterile reprocessing unit and endoscopy reprocessing unit. This is a full time 0.6 FTE /48 hours per fortnight role. The successful applicant will be required to work rostered and rotating shifts with weekends as rostered.

About the Team/Service Location

SSD are a team of highly skilled sterile technicians who are proud of the work that they do to. The focus of the work is presenting reprocessed reusable medical devices for use in our operating theatres for patients undergoing elective and acute surgery and endoscopic procedures. Sterile technicians are a professional group who are members of the Allied Health Scientific and Technical workforce at HVDHB. The SSD operates seven days per week from 07.00am to 23.00pm.

About you

The ideal candidate shall:

• Hold as a minimum the certificate in Sterilising Technology Level 4 or equivalent.(Level 3 certificate if achieved prior to 2019)
• Ideally have achieved GENCA Endoscopy qualifications in addition to the above. However full training can be given in Endoscopy requirements.
• Applicants must be fit and healthy as some heavy lifting may be involved.
