Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora in Dunedin is seeking a Registered Nurse for Pre-operative Preparation in our Day Surgery Unit. This role supports patients from preadmission through to discharge, across multiple specialties, in a modern, patient‐centred environment.

Shifts are 8 hours, Monday to Friday, 0.8 FTE. We value post‑operative experience, NZ APC registration, and a commitment to quality and diverse, inclusive care.

Qualifications

• Post operative surgical experience a must.
• Registered Nurse with APC.
• Recent and relevant experience within a NZ clinical setting.
• Involved in the termination of pregnancy service.
• Willingness to promote quality initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Care for patients from preadmissions through to discharge.
• Provide nursing care in the Day Surgery Unit across multiple surgical specialties (ENT, General Surgery, Gynaecology, Orthopaedic, Plastics, Urology, Paediatrics).
• Support patients through the continuum of care and promote best practice quality initiatives.
• Work within a modern Day Procedure Unit transitioning from the current unit to the new Outpatients building.

Salary Band $81,000 - $106,000 + KiwiSaver

• 0.8 FTE / 64 Hours per fortnight

About the role

Our Day Surgery Unit is a one–stop shop, providing surgery to patients of all ages from a wide range of surgical specialties ranging from;

• ENT,
• General Surgery,
• Gynaecology,
• Orthopaedic,
• Plastics,
• Urology
• and Paediatrics.

Care for patient's right across the continuum of care from preadmissions through to discharge.

DSU also accommodates patients admitted for a variety of non-theatre procedures.

Monday to Friday Day 8 hour shifts between 7am-7pm

Shifting to state of the art Day Procedure Unit within the new Outpatients building begining in October.

About you

• Post operative surgical experience a must
• Registered Nurse with APC

Salary Range
This role is covered by the terms and conditions of the expired NZNO CEA and the salary will be in accordance with the RN Pay Scale, between step 2 $81,683 and step 7 $106,739 p.a dependant on relevant experience.
