Job description

Jora New Zealand will close on 9th September 2026. Thank you for being with us, we are cheering you on as you continue your career journey.

Looking for a role where your eye for detail, quality mindset and building knowledge can make a real difference? As our Quality & Compliance Lead, you'll play a critical role in maintaining Building Consent Authority accreditation, supporting compliance activities, and helping ensure buildings and swimming pools across our district remain safe and compliant.

This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week. You'll join our Building Control team and work closely with colleagues across both Ōtorohanga and Waitomo District Councils to drive quality, consistency and continuous improvement in the way we deliver services to our communities.

About the gig

If you're someone who enjoys a mix of technical administration, quality assurance, compliance monitoring and relationship building, this role has plenty to keep you engaged.

You’ll take the lead on maintaining our Building Quality Management System, helping ensure accreditation requirements are met and supporting our Council's ongoing success as a Building Consent Authority. You’ll coordinate audits, monitor compliance activities, identify improvement opportunities and work closely with staff to ensure quality processes are consistently applied.

Beyond quality systems, you’ll also be involved in building compliance activities, including swimming pool barrier inspections, Building Warrant of Fitness matters, specified systems compliance and broader building safety requirements. You’ll help building owners, pool owners, contractors and members of the public understand their obligations and navigate compliance requirements with confidence.

You’ll investigate issues, monitor outcomes, provide practical guidance and support enforcement processes where needed. A big part of the role is helping people understand what’s required and working collaboratively to achieve positive compliance outcomes.

This is a role where you’ll be trusted to think critically, manage competing priorities and contribute to continuous improvement across the Building Control function. The work you do will directly support safe buildings, safer swimming pools and strong regulatory performance across our district.

If you want to know more about the position, read the position description here.

A bit about you

You don't need to tick every box, but you'll likely bring a mix of technical knowledge, quality expertise and a genuine desire to help people achieve good outcomes.

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • A relevant technical qualification aligned with Building Control Authority requirements.
  • Knowledge and experience of the Building Act 2004, NZ Building Code and associated legislation.
  • Experience with quality management systems, audits or process improvement programmes.
  • Knowledge of specified systems, Building Warrants of Fitness, swimming pool safety requirements or building compliance activities.
  • Strong investigative and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret legislation and apply it practically.
  • Excellent communication skills and the confidence to engage with a wide range of customers and stakeholders.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy and professionalism.
  • A full New Zealand driver licence.
