Job summary

The ToolShed in Hamilton, NZ is seeking a Purchasing Officer / Analyst to manage a local and overseas product portfolio. This role is analytical and data-driven, focusing on demand planning and purchasing execution rather than supplier management.

You will work closely with the Supply Chain Manager, leveraging Excel and NetSuite to ensure the right stock is in the right place at the right time, with emphasis on accuracy and timely decision making.

Qualifications

• Experience in purchasing analysis, inventory management, or supply chain.
• Advanced Excel skills including formulas, lookups, PivotTables.
• Experience with NetSuite or similar ERP/inventory system.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage margins and delivery dates.
• Retail, wholesale or distribution exposure is preferred but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Inventory analysis: Monitor sales trends, stock holdings, lead times, and seasonality.
• Data & Reporting: Use NetSuite and Excel to prepare inventory reports and assess risks.
• Purchasing Execution: Place approved purchase orders and track overseas/local shipments.
• Stock Optimization: Recommend reorder quantities, bulk buys, and stock clearance actions.
• System Maintenance: Maintain accurate product data, costs, barcodes, and website details.
• Team Support: Provide product insights to marketing and stores, and assist with event planning.

The ToolShed is kiwi owned and one of New Zealand’s leading independent tool retailers, with approximately 30 stores nationwide and a substantial range of locally sourced and imported products. This role will be based in National Support Office in Hamilton.

About the Role

The ToolShed is strengthening its purchasing team! We are looking for an analytical, highly organised Purchasing Officer / Analyst to manage a portfolio of local and overseas products.

This is primarily an analytical and data-driven role, focusing on demand planning and purchasing execution rather than supplier relationship management. Working closely with our Supply Chain Manager, you will leverage Excel and NetSuite data to ensure the right stock is in the right place at the right time.

Key Responsibilities

• Inventory Analysis: Monitor sales trends, stock holdings, lead times, and seasonality.
• Data & Reporting: Use NetSuite and Excel to prepare inventory reports and assess risks.

• Analytical Mindset: Strong numerical skills to turn raw data into smart purchasing choices.
• System Savvy: Experience with NetSuite is a major advantage (or a similar ERP/inventory system).
• Attention to Detail: Absolute accuracy when checking margins, product specs, and delivery dates.
• Organisational Skills: High ability to prioritise tasks and follow through on supply exceptions.
• Industry Knowledge: Experience in retail, wholesale, or distribution is preferred but not essential.
