Somerset in Hamilton is seeking a Purchasing Manager to oversee end-to-end purchasing, forecasting and supply chain activities within a fast-growing NZ family-owned company.

Based in Hamilton, you will manage purchasing, planning, inventory, and logistics, ensuring raw and finished goods are available on time while leading continuous improvement with suppliers and transport partners as the business scales.

About the role

As our Purchasing Manager, you will be responsible for assisting with all aspects of our purchasing, demand forecasting and Supply chain.


Your role will help us continue to scale up our operations to meet growth demand and forecast and exciting future timeline for the company.


Working within the wider operations team of this fastest growing company, this role oversees the end-to-end management of all supply chain functions. Responsible for purchasing, planning, you’ll ensure supplies of raw and finished goods are available within required time frames. Based in Hamilton you’ll be immersed in the manufacturing and commercial aspects of the business, and work alongside the Senior Management Leadership on exciting future growth and development opportunities.


Objectives of this role and Responsibility includes.


  • Receive and verify received order.

  • Ensure to store goods correctly by using equipment.

  • Supervise daily warehouse activities, inventory control, space management, floor productivity and shipping.

  • Oversee and manage logistics for transporting products to customers and companies’ other facilities by communicating with Transport partners to ensure efficient delivery of package.

  • Ensure the quality of products stored with labelling.

  • Inventory management including location and stock-takes.

  • Identify and lead continuous improvement initiatives, with the goal of further reducing costs, improving service levels and improving freshness of product.

  • To lead in the smooth preparation, execution and exiting of seasonal selling events (eg: Christmas, Easter).

  • Planning for inventory, purchasing inventory, managing the inventory onsite and maintaining the master data associated with it.

  • Manage distribution through our transport Supplier to ensure on-time delivery and identify and mitigate any risks.

  • Identify spend categories that represent the best cost saving and value add opportunities.

  • Drive continuous improvement and cost optimization in the supply chain.

  • Maintain positive relationships with suppliers and distributors.

  • Knowledge of advanced computer skills (MS Office packages) especially Excel,MS Teams.

With substantial experience across the Procurement, you will have sound knowledge in end-to-end practices and can apply an integrated approach to business objectives. A forward planner, you will demonstrate the ability to anticipate and plan with cross functional cooperation. Thriving on developing a high performing team, you are a strong communicator and are able to influence and demonstrate leadership across the business.

Additionally, you will have:


  • You are a procurement professional with experience in procurement of physical products, not just services.

  • Bachelor in qualification or similar relevant experience

  • Expert knowledge working with Microsoft Office/Google applications

  • excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong knowledge in Procurement, Production Planning, Operations Planning.

  • General business knowledge with a strong customer focus
