Job summary

Humphries Construction in Palmerston North is seeking a results‑driven Project Manager to lead planning, coordination and delivery of construction projects.

You will work with site managers, clients, consultants and subcontractors to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time and within budget.

A proven track record in Commercial, Industrial or Residential construction, excellent communication, and proficiency with MS Project and the Office Suite are required.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in construction project management.
  • Strong understanding of Commercial, Industrial and/or Residential construction practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Job description

As a Project Manager you will be responsible for the planning, coordination, management, and delivery of construction projects while ensuring client expectations are met or exceeded. You will work closely with site managers, subcontractors, clients, consultants, and other stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

This role requires strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.

Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Delivery
  • Manage construction projects from initiation through to completion and final handover.
  • Develop project programmes, schedules, and delivery strategies.
  • Coordinate site establishment, resource allocation, and project commencement activities.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to agreed quality standards.
  • Monitor project progress and proactively address risks and challenges.
Stakeholder Management
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Act as the primary point of contact throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Manage client expectations and ensure high levels of client satisfaction.
  • Work collaboratively with Operations Manager, Project Mangers, Foremen, and Quantity Surveyors.
  • Coordinate staffing requirements and project resources.
  • Support site teams to ensure project objectives are achieved efficiently.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative team culture.
Contract Administration & Compliance
  • Manage project documentation, reporting, invoicing, and record keeping.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, building standards, and Health & Safety requirements.Maintain accurate project records and ensure all compliance obligations are met.
  • Oversee project quality assurance processes and defect resolution.
  • Monitor project budgets and costs.
  • Assist with project cost management and ensure accurate and timely invoicing.
  • Ensure efficient use of project resources and identify opportunities for improved project performance.
