Job summary

Fulton Hogan is seeking a Project Engineer to join our Central Otago Operations and deliver high-quality infrastructure projects across the region. You will work with the Project Manager to drive planning, programming, cost control and stakeholder coordination while maintaining a strong on-site presence.

The role offers ownership of key project functions, a safety-first mindset, and opportunities for career development within a supportive team culture in Central Otago and Queenstown area.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Civil Engineering or similar qualification required.
  • 5+ years' experience in infrastructure or contracting environments.
  • Strong knowledge of project delivery and management principles.
  • Experience leading day-to-day site operations, budgeting and programming.
  • Safety-first mindset with understanding of relevant legislation and best practice.
  • Ability to lead and collaborate with site teams and contractors.
  • Full Class 1 driver's licence.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Project Manager with planning, methodology development and delivery strategy.
  • Develop and maintain project programmes aligned to budgets and timelines.
  • Monitor costs, forecasts and financial performance.
  • Procure and manage subcontractors, suppliers and key project resources.
  • Prepare and review project documentation, including reports, contracts and variations.
  • Identify and manage project risks and opportunities.
  • Build strong relationships with internal teams, clients and stakeholders.
  • Ensure projects meet safety, quality and environmental standards.

Mō te tūranga | About the role

As a Project Engineer, you'll work closely with the Project Manager to drive the successful delivery of projects from planning through to completion. You'll take ownership of key project functions including programming, cost control, subcontractor management, and stakeholder coordination.

While you'll still maintain a presence on site, your focus will be on ensuring projects are well planned, commercially sound, and delivered efficiently.

  • Supporting the Project Manager with project planning, methodology development, and delivery strategy

  • Developing and maintaining project programmes, ensuring alignment with budgets and timelines

  • Monitoring and managing project costs, forecasts, and financial performance

  • Procuring and managing subcontractors, suppliers, and key project resources

  • Preparing and reviewing project documentation, including reporting, contracts, and variations

  • Identifying and managing project risks and opportunities

  • Building strong relationships with internal teams, clients, and stakeholders

  • Ensuring projects meet safety, quality, and environmental standards

Kei te kimi mātou i tētahi e whai ana i ēnei pūkenga | We're looking for someone with

  • A tertiary qualification in Engineering, ideally a Bachelor of Civil Engineering or similar

  • Proven experience as an Engineer within infrastructure or contracting environments (around 5+ years)

  • Strong working knowledge of project delivery and project management principles

  • Experience supporting or leading day‑to‑day site operations, including documentation, programming, and cost control

  • A safety‑first mindset, with a solid understanding of relevant legislation and good engineering practice

  • The ability to lead, motivate, and work collaboratively with site teams and contractors

  • A full Class 1 driver's licence
