Job summary

Syft Technologies in Christchurch is seeking a Production Electronics Engineer to join our Operations Engineering team. You'll provide technical support across production processes, work with engineers and manufacturing teams, and help improve product quality, reliability, and efficiency.

This role balances technical problem-solving, production support, process improvement, and quality initiatives to deliver world-class instrumentation to customers globally.

Qualifications

  • Engineering qualification (BEng, BEng Tech, or similar) required.
  • 2 years' experience in electronics engineering, including assembly, testing and technical support.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
  • Experience with automated production testing systems.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting skills and a practical, proactive approach.
  • Experience using electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, DMMs and soldering equipment.
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing, quality management and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support across all stages of electronics manufacturing.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities, including building prototypes and test rigs.
  • Develop and maintain production test and automation systems.
  • Assess and implement Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
  • Maintain and improve existing test infrastructure.
  • Drive continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain SOPs and quality documentation.
  • Manage TPM and calibration systems.
  • Build, calibrate, tune and test Syft products.
  • Establish and monitor product quality standards and inspection processes.
  • Collaborate with production teams, suppliers and other departments to resolve technical challenges.

About the role

Reporting to the Operations Engineering Manager, you'll provide technical support across our production processes, work closely with engineers and manufacturing teams, and play a key role in improving product quality, reliability, and efficiency.

This is a varied role where you'll balance technical problem-solving, production support, process improvement, and quality initiatives to help deliver world-class instrumentation to customers around the globe. Here is what you'll spend most of your time on:

Provide technical support across all stages of electronics manufacturing.

Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities, including building prototypes and test rigs.

Develop and maintain production test and automation systems.

Assess and implement Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).

Maintain and improve existing test infrastructure.

Drive continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives.

Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and quality documentation.

Manage TPM and calibration systems.

Build, calibrate, tune, and test Syft products.

Establish and monitor product quality standards and inspection processes.

Collaborate with production teams, suppliers, and other departments to resolve technical challenges and improve outcomes.

What you'll bring

We're looking for someone who enjoys getting stuck into problems, learning new technologies, and working collaboratively across teams. So naturally you will have:

Engineering qualification (BEng, BEng Tech, or similar).

2 years' experience in electronics engineering, including assembly, testing, and technical support.

Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.

Proficiency with Microsoft 365, particularly Excel.

Experience with automated production testing systems.

Strong practical troubleshooting skills and a hands‑on approach.

Experience using electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, and soldering equipment.

Understanding of lean manufacturing, quality management, and continuous improvement principles.

Nice to have

Mechanical or mechatronics engineering experience.

Manufacturing experience within a high-tech, low-volume environment.

Experience with Altium or similar PCB design software.
