Job description

Jora New Zealand will close on 9th September 2026. Thank you for being with us, we are cheering you on as you continue your career journey.

At SYOS Aerospace, we don't believe great technology should sit on a drawing board for years. We design, build, test and deliver autonomous systems that operate across air, land and sea, here in Mount Maunganui. Our teams take ambitious ideas, turn them into prototypes, refine them through testing, and deliver technology that solves real-world challenges around the globe.

We're growing quickly, taking on bigger challenges and building products that matter. That means we're looking for people who enjoy moving fast, solving complex problems and seeing their work make an impact.

If you like being close to the action, getting hands-on with new technology and watching your ideas move from concept to reality, you'll fit right in.

What Makes This Role Different

This isn't a traditional Production Engineer role.

You'll be at the heart of bringing new autonomous systems to life - working alongside engineering and manufacturing teams to take products from early concepts and prototypes through to production. You'll help shape how things are built, improve processes, solve challenges and make sure our products are ready for the real world.

No two days will look the same. One day you could be supporting a prototype build in the workshop, the next working with engineers to improve manufacturability, refine processes or prepare products for production. This is a role for someone who enjoys variety, ownership and seeing tangible results from their work. You'll have the opportunity to lead from the front in innovation, pace and delivery - helping transform ideas into reliable products that fly, drive and operate around the world.

What You'll Be Doing

Working across Engineering, Prototype Manufacturing and Quality, you'll help bridge the gap between design and production.

You'll be involved in:

  • Supporting new product introduction (NPI) from prototype through to production.
  • Improving designs for manufacturability and assembly.
  • Developing production processes, documentation and quality controls.
  • Supporting prototype builds and capturing lessons learned.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve quality, efficiency and delivery.
  • Helping prepare products for manufacturing in New Zealand and international locations.
  • Collaborating with engineers across mechanical, electrical, software and systems disciplines.

Qualifications & Experience

We're looking for someone who enjoys bringing products to life, combining engineering discipline with a hands-on, problem-solving mindset.

You’ll ideally bring:

  • Experience in Quality, Manufacturing or Production Engineering within a product development or NPI environment.
  • Hands-on experience supporting prototype builds and taking products from concept through to production.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, DFM/DFA, assembly validation and production documentation.
  • Experience with quality tools such as DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plans and First Article Inspection (FAI).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • A self-driven approach, with the ability to take ownership and deliver outcomes.

Bonus points if you have

  • Experience in aerospace, defense, UAV/drone, robotics or advanced manufacturing environments.
  • Experience with AS9100 or other aerospace quality standards.
  • PPAP experience and supplier quality knowledge.
  • Requirements management tools or electronic assembly standards experience.
  • A formal engineering qualification in mechanical, manufacturing or a related discipline.
