Hospice Mid-Northland – Kerikeri, North Island

Are you a practical people leader who enjoys creating order, supporting volunteers and keeping a busy operation moving? Hospice Mid-Northland is looking for a Processing Centre Team Lead to take ownership of the day-to-day operation of our Kerikeri Processing Centre. This is a hands‐on leadership role at the heart of our retail network. You will lead the Inwards Goods Coordinator and Processing Centre volunteers, coordinate donated‑stock workflow from receipt to dispatch, and ensure our shops receive good‑quality stock safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities

Planning and coordinating the Processing Centre's daily workflow, priorities and staffing.

Leading, supporting and developing the Inwards Goods Coordinator and Processing Centre volunteers.

Ensuring donations are welcomed with gratitude and are received, sorted, cleaned, priced, stored and dispatched safely and efficiently.

Maintaining agreed quality standards and making sound decisions about saleable, recyclable and unsaleable goods.

Coordinating stock supply to Hospice shops and responding to changing retail priorities.

Coordinating donation pickups, deliveries and Shifter/Lifter activity, and assisting with collections when reasonably required.

Leading routine health and safety, including hazard controls, incident reporting, manual handling, vehicle use and visitor safety.

Tracking stock flow, volunteer capacity, quality, waste and operational risks, and reporting clearly to the Retail Operations Manager.

Improving systems, storage and ways of working so goods move through the centre smoothly and safely.

About you

Experience leading people in an operational, warehousing, logistics, retail, community or volunteer environment.

Confidence supervising staff and coordinating volunteers, including induction, coaching and respectful performance conversations.

Strong planning skills and the ability to prioritise a changing workload while keeping people informed.

Practical judgement about product quality, stock handling, safety, storage and operational risk.

Clear communication, accurate basic record keeping and confidence using everyday digital systems.

A current clean driver licence and the ability to drive a small truck when required.

The physical capability to safely lift and move furniture and donated goods using appropriate equipment and team‑lifting practices.

The person we are looking for

You will be warm and respectful with donors and volunteers, calm under pressure and comfortable making practical decisions. You will value teamwork, communicate clearly, address problems constructively and take pride in creating a safe, organised and welcoming workplace.

Why this role matters

Every well‑managed donation helps our shops raise funds for specialist palliative care. Your leadership will help volunteers thrive, improve the experience of donors and ensure valuable goods reach our retail customers.
