Job summary

Awanui Group Balclutha is seeking a motivated Trainee/Registered Phlebotomist for the Patient Services team. This permanent, part-time role (30 hours per fortnight) offers hands-on experience in a professional, supportive environment with training in Dunedin.

You will collect samples in community and hospital settings, manage specimens safely, and support testing with Point of Care machines, while upholding confidentiality and quality standards.

• Eligibility to work in New Zealand; training support to become a Qualified Medical Laboratory Pre-Analytical Technician within 2 years.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood samples from patients in community and hospital settings.
• Handle and manage biological specimens (blood, faeces, urine, tissue) safely and compliantly.
• Ensure accurate labelling, handling and transport of specimens.
• Support processing and testing of specimens using Point of Care machines.
• Maintain patient care, confidentiality and quality standards.
