About the role
To lead and run the payroll and administration function of the business. The role owns end-to-end payroll for all Apollo Foods employees, ensuring staff are paid accurately and on time, and in compliance with New Zealand employment legislation including the Holidays Act 2003, KiwiSaver and PAYE obligations. The role also manages accounts receivable and sales invoicing, GST and other IRD compliance, assists with month end accounting procedures across 3 companies and carries out general administration duties as required.
Key responsibilities
Process payroll for all employees accurately and on time each pay cycle, including wages, salaries, overtime, allowances and public holiday rates
Collect, check and reconcile timesheets and attendance data with managers before each pay run, and obtain payroll approval in line with Apollo's delegation of authority
Calculate and process all leave in line with the Holidays Act 2003, including annual, sick, bereavement, family violence, alternative and public holiday entitlements
Process all statutory and voluntary deductions, including PAYE, KiwiSaver, student loan, child support and other authorised deductions
Set up new starters and process leavers in the payroll system, including final pays and holiday pay calculations
Maintain accurate and confidential employee and payroll records, including pay rates, tax codes and bank details, in line with the Privacy Act 2020
Reconcile payroll to the general ledger each pay period and at month end, including wages, leave liability and payroll accruals
Ensure all sales invoices are processed in a timely, accurate and efficient manner
Responsible for the timely and accurate filing of GST and other IRD compliance requirements
Manage bank reconciliations and month end process
About you
NCEA Level 3 or equivalent practical experience
Proven experience processing end-to-end payroll, ideally for 50+ employees including waged and shift workers
Understanding and practical knowledge of accounting procedures, including accounts receivable
Working knowledge of payroll software and Microsoft Office, with strong Excel skills
Desirable: Diploma in Business management or Bachelor of business studies; formal payroll training or certification
