This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys the detail of payroll, thrives in a high-volume environment and takes pride in delivering exceptional service to employees, managers and stakeholders across the business.

What you'll be doing

You'll play a key role in the day-to-day delivery of payroll services, ensuring payroll activities are completed accurately, compliantly and to a high standard. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Taking ownership of end-to-end payroll processing and ensuring pay runs are completed accurately and on time.
  • Mentoring Payroll Partners with day-to-day payroll activities
  • Working closely with time and attendance systems, providing guidance on pay rules, testing changes and ensuring configurations are accurate and effective.
  • Maintaining employee data and ensuring payroll information is managed securely and accurately.
  • Processing payroll-related payments, deductions and KiwiSaver contributions.
  • Completing month-end reconciliations, payroll reporting and year-end activities.
  • Managing payroll compliance across tax obligations, employee entitlements, Holidays Act requirements and payroll controls.
  • Investigating and resolving payroll queries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Building strong relationships with People & Performance, Finance, FletcherTech and business stakeholders to deliver great customer outcomes.
  • Providing ad-hoc reporting and contributing to payroll projects and initiatives as required.
  • Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and helping implement positive change across payroll processes.
About you

You'll bring significant payroll experience and be confident working in a dynamic environment where accuracy, compliance and customer service are critical.

Ideally, you'll have:

  • 5+ years' experience in a high-volume payroll environment within New Zealand.
  • Strong knowledge of New Zealand employment legislation and the Holidays Act.
  • Experience interpreting Collective and Individual Employment
  • Strong understanding of payroll compliance, controls and employee entitlements.
  • The ability to perform off-system payroll calculations and identify discrepancies.
  • Experience maintaining compliance across end-to-end payroll processes.
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy and numeracy skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to provide professional advice and support to stakeholders.
  • A customer-focused mindset and a commitment to delivering service excellence.
  • The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and perform effectively under pressure.
  • NZPPA certification (Level 3 or above) would be advantageous but not essential

Most importantly, you'll be someone who takes ownership, enjoys solving problems, builds strong relationships and is always looking for better ways of working. You'll be comfortable supporting others, championing change, taking on leadership initiative and helping drive a culture of continuous improvement.

This is an opportunity to join a large, diverse and established business where payroll plays a critical role in supporting our people and operations. You'll work alongside experienced Payroll and People & Performance professionals, gain exposure to a complex payroll environment and have the opportunity to contribute to both operational excellence and continuous improvement initiatives.

At Fletcher Building, safety and wellbeing are fundamental to the way we work. You'll be part of a team that values collaboration, customer focus, continuous improvement and delivering great outcomes for our people.
