Bank of New Zealand (BNZ) is seeking an experienced Enterprise Architect to join our Tech Strategy & Architecture team in Auckland on a hybrid schedule. You will shape BNZ's payments architecture, connecting business strategy with practical delivery across people, processes, information, and technology.

The role emphasizes target-state roadmaps for payments, API patterns, and compliance with NZ regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Experience in enterprise or solution architecture, large-scale transformation and cloud-first environments.
• Background delivering payment services within financial services.
• Knowledge of NZ payments landscape, standards and regulatory context.
• Understanding of ISO 20022, PCI DSS and security best practices.
• Ability to coach and influence across business and tech teams.

Responsibilities

• Set target states and roadmaps for payments and open banking.
• Shape BNZ's payments strategy and architecture across platforms and services.
• Guide integration across payment platforms, customer records, and core banking.
• Define reusable patterns for APIs, events, messaging, and batch processing.
• Define availability, performance, observability, and failover requirements.
• Collaborate with identity, consent, and authority functions with governance.
• Lead modernization, migration, and decommissioning decisions with value and risk balance.
• Coach architects and delivery teams and elevate material risks.
• Follow governance, policy, and health and safety requirements.
