Job summary

Waikato Women's Refuge in Hamilton is seeking a part-time Payroll & Finance Assistant to support our finance team with weekly payroll processing and day-to-day accounts work. This role suits someone who takes pride in accuracy, stays organised, and can manage confidential information in a respectful, timely manner.

You will report to the Head of Finance and help ensure kaimahi are paid correctly and on time, with duties spanning payroll processing, record maintenance, and basic accounting tasks.

Qualifications

• Experience in payroll processing and knowledge of payroll systems; Employment Hero is advantageous.
• Working knowledge of NZ payroll legislation, including public holidays and on-call/allowance rates.
• Accounts payable/receivable and reconciliation experience.
• High attention to detail and accuracy.
• Discretion handling confidential information.
• Good communication skills across the organisation.
• Available to work Mondays with flexibility for other days.

Responsibilities

• Process payroll accurately and on time each week.
• Maintain payroll records including leave and timesheets.
• Ensure correct application of payroll legislation including public holidays and on-call/allowance rates.
• Process accounts payable and receivable with coding and reconciliations.
• Reconcile bank accounts and assist with month-end processes.
• Support the Head of Finance with ad hoc administrative tasks and reporting.
• Respond to kaimahi payroll queries with care and confidentiality.
• Assist with KiwiSaver, PAYE and other statutory payroll requirements.
