Job summary

Hamilton City Council is seeking a Parks Maintenance Officer to help care for parks, playgrounds, sporting facilities and council infrastructure across the Waikato region. You will work independently and as part of a team, perform safety-focused maintenance, manage litter, and collaborate with contractors to deliver high-quality public spaces.

The role requires a NZ driver’s license, first aid certification, and hands-on experience in parks or general maintenance; starting wage is $29.90 per

Qualifications

• Current NZ full driver’s license - Class 2 essential.
• Current first aid certification.
• Experience in parks maintenance.
• Experience in general maintenance /handyperson activities.
• Strong work ethic with ability to plan and execute work programs.
• Ability to work independently and in a team with physical fitness.

Responsibilities

• General safety maintenance tasks across parks, playgrounds, and sporting facilities.
• Ensure safety, quality, and presentation standards.
• Collaborate with contractors and Parks and Recreation team.
• Work independently and as part of a team to meet deadlines.
• Engage with the public in a friendly and professional manner.
• Maintain a customer-focused approach for facility users.
• Manage parks rubbish and ground litter.
