Job summary

Bayley Produce Ltd is seeking a meticulous Packhouse Quality Controller for a fixed-term season from late November to mid-February. • Identify defects, grading inconsistencies, and food safety concerns and communicate promptly.
• Assist with quality assurance and food safety procedures within the packhouse.
• Support production staff with guidance on quality standards and product specs.
• Assist on the packing line as required to ensure smooth operations.

Packhouse Quality Controller (Fixed-Term)

Position Summary

We are a family-owned and operated produce business seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Packhouse Quality Controller to join our team on a fixed-term contract from late November through to mid-February. This role is responsible for ensuring our nectarines, beans, and sweetcorn meet our quality standards from packing through to dispatch.

Working closely with the Production, Packhouse, and Agricultural Managers, you will play an important role in maintaining product quality, accurate documentation, and efficient packhouse operations during our peak harvest season.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and maintain quality standards for nectarines, beans, and sweetcorn throughout the packing process.
• Conduct regular quality inspections and sample produce to ensure compliance with customer and company specifications.
• Complete accurate quality records, reports, and documentation in a timely manner.
• Report quality issues, trends, and corrective actions to the Production, Packhouse, and Agricultural Managers.
• Identify defects, grading inconsistencies, and food safety concerns, and communicate these promptly.
• Assist with maintaining quality assurance and food safety procedures within the packhouse.
• Support production staff by providing guidance on quality standards and product specifications.
• Assist on the packing line as required to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
• Work collaboratively with all team members to maintain a positive and productive workplace.

Experience and Qualifications

• Previous experience in quality control, horticulture, food production, or a packhouse environment is preferred but not essential.
• Understanding of fresh produce quality standards is an advantage.
• Basic computer skills for recording and reporting quality information.

Hours of Work

• This is a fixed-term position from late November until mid-February.
• Typical working days are Sunday to Friday, with hours varying according to seasonal production requirements.
• Availability throughout the Christmas and New Year period is essential, as this is our busiest time of the season.
• Flexibility to work additional hours during peak harvest periods is required.
