Job summary

Hato Hone St John in Christchurch is seeking an Ambulance Resource Assistant (Operations Resource Assistant) for a fixed-term, part-time contract ending March 2027. The role is based at the Make Ready Hub in the Christchurch CBD on a 4x4 roster, 31.5 hours per week.

You will prepare ambulances for operational readiness, maintain cleanliness, stock supplies, and monitor fleet status. This essential behind-the-scenes work supports frontline emergency services and makes a real difference every day.

Qualifications

• Clear and effective verbal and written communication.
• Willingness to learn infection control and biohazards management.
• Knowledge of vehicle maintenance would be advantageous.
• First Aid certificate is advantageous but not essential.
• Hold a Full Driver’s Licence.

Responsibilities

• Maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety and infection control in ambulances.
• Ensure ambulances are stocked, serviced and available where needed.
• Actively monitor fleet status and carry out routine maintenance and equipment checks.
• Coordinate vehicle movements to support seamless service delivery.
• Contribute to a fast-paced, error-free ambulance support environment.

Job Description

We have an opportunity with our Canterbury Emergency Ambulance Service for a non-clinical person to work in the cutting-edge Christchurch Make Ready Hub, located in the Christchurch CBD, as a fixed-term part-time contract, ending March 2027 on a 4x4 roster. Ambulance Resource Assistant (what we call internally - Operations Resource Assistants or ORAs).

This is an important ambulance support role with a primary focus to prepare Hato Hone St John vehicles for operational readiness which means you'll be an essential worker supporting our front-line emergency service.

In this hands-on role, you’ll maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety, and infection control, while ensuring our ambulances are fully stocked, serviced, and available where they’re needed most. You’ll actively monitor fleet status, carry out routine maintenance and equipment checks, and coordinate vehicle movements to support seamless service delivery. Qualifications

• The ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written is essential
