Job summary

The Treasury in Wellington is seeking two Modelling Specialists to contribute to its analytics, modelling and policy analysis capability. This hands-on role involves applying quantitative methods to complex, policy-relevant questions across projects including economic modelling, microdata analysis, forecasting, and applied policy work.

You will work with Treasury colleagues to develop evidence, insights, and analytical products for Ministers and decision-makers, with a focus on rigour and impact.

Qualifications

• A tertiary qualification in economics, econometrics, statistics, mathematics, or another quantitative discipline.
• Proven ability to apply quantitative skills to real-world policy problems.
• Experience working with data, models, analytical tools, and code.
• Strong problem-solving, data manipulation, and analytical skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, able to explain complex analysis to technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to Treasury modelling, data, and analytical capability.
• Work on economic modelling, microdata analysis, forecasting, or applied policy analysis.
• Develop analytical tools and improve analytical processes.
• Support adoption of new approaches and technologies to enhance analysis quality and efficiency.
