Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Operations Superintendent to manage and optimize mining operations at a site near Queenstown. The role focuses on safety, productivity, budgeting, and leading a team to meet targets with high operational integrity.

The ideal candidate will have a degree or diploma in mining, at least 6 years in mining operations with 3+ in supervision, and strong leadership and planning skills. This position requires the ability to work in a remote, demanding environment and relocation

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Mining Engineering, Mine Surveying, or related field.
• Minimum 6 years in mining operations with at least 3 years in a supervisory or superintendent role.
• Proven experience in leading operational teams and safe work practices.
• Solid understanding of mining methods, equipment and safety protocols.
• Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a remote and demanding operational environment.
• Proficiency in mine planning software and MS Office.
• Valid Blasting Certificate or equivalent is advantageous.
• Must be able to work shifts and be located in or willing to relocate to the Queenstown area.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and direct daily mining operations, including drilling, blasting, loading, and hauling.
• Ensure all operations are conducted in strict compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
• Manage and mentor operational teams, fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
• Monitor production performance against targets and implement strategies to optimize efficiency and resource utilization.
• Oversee the maintenance and effective use of mining equipment and machinery.
• Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments.
• Investigate operational incidents and implement corrective actions.
• Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and other departments to ensure smooth operations.
• Manage operational budgets and control costs effectively.
• Contribute to mine planning and production forecasting.
