Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Mine Safety Inspector to ensure top safety standards across Queenstown operations. You will conduct regular inspections, identify hazards, ensure regulatory compliance, and promote a proactive safety culture among all personnel on site.

The ideal candidate has a strong commitment to safety, excellent observational skills, and the ability to communicate and enforce safety protocols.

Qualifications

• Relevant qualification in Occupational Health and Safety or related field; mining experience essential.
• Minimum of 5 years in mine safety inspection or similar role within mining.
• In-depth knowledge of mining operations, safety procedures, and Mine Health and Safety Act.
• Strong hazard identification, risk assessment, and control measures.
• Excellent observational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication, training, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and maintain accurate records.
• Proficiency in standard office software.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel within mine sections.
• First Aid and firefighting certifications are advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough and systematic safety inspections of mining areas, equipment, and activities.
• Identify unsafe conditions and hazards; recommend corrective actions to management.
• Ensure adherence to national and company safety regulations, policies and procedures.
• Investigate workplace accidents, injuries, and near misses; prepare reports and recommendations.
• Develop and deliver safety training programs and toolbox talks for mine personnel.
• Maintain comprehensive records of inspections, training, and safety incidents.
• Promote a strong safety culture by engaging with employees and supervisors.
• Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for identified hazards.
• Stay updated with changes in safety legislation and industry best practices.
• Advise management on all aspects of mine safety and health.
