Job summary

SmartRecruiters, Inc. is seeking a Merchandise Data & Governance specialist in New Zealand to safeguard master data and drive governance across merchandise systems. You will partner with Merchandise, Planning and Technology to resolve issues, improve processes and ensure data accuracy for confident decision-making.

The role offers hybrid work with regular on-site collaboration, advanced Excel usage, and opportunities to shape data governance across a national retail brand.

Qualifications

• Relevant qualification in Business, Commerce, Information Systems or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
• Experience working with master data, business systems or system administration in commercial environment (retail would be a bonus!)
• Strong understanding of data governance, data quality and system processes.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify root causes and drive solutions
• Advanced Excel skills and confidence working across multiple systems
• Experience supporting business process improvement, system enhancements, testing and change implementation.
• Knowledge of merchandise, planning, supply chain or retail business processes would be advantageous
• Able to translate technical concepts into clear, practical guidance for stakeholders
• Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy and process discipline
• Highly organised, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Strong relationship-building and communication skills, with a collaborative work approach
• Proactive and curious mindset, with a focus on continuous improvement and challenging existing ways of working.
• Experience working with cross-functional stakeholders to influence outcomes, resolve issues and drive process improvements

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate merchandise master data across key systems and drive data quality, consistency and governance standards
• Provide guidance and troubleshooting for merchandise systems and support users/teams optimising system capabilities
• Manage system updates, hierarchy maintenance and user access and support testing, upgrades and system enhancements
• Monitor data quality and system compliance, investigate recurring issues and implement sustainable solutions
• Collaborate across Merchandise, Planning and Technology teams to resolve issues and improve processes
• Provide subject matter expertise and support for merchandise operational issues, ensuring timely resolution and minimising business disruption
• Maintain and improve merchandise processes, controls and standards to support consistent ways of working and effective governance
• Support the implementation of system enhancements, process changes and new functionality, ensuring solutions meet business requirements and are operationally effective
• Identify opportunities to simplify processes and improve systems
