Job summary

Christchurch City Mission is hiring a Night Shelter Support Worker to join the team. This permanent role offers 40 hours per week, Friday to Tuesday, 4.30pm-12.30am, in a residential setting supporting men experiencing homelessness and hardship.

You will work with clinical staff to deliver 24/7 care, provide practical support and coping strategies, and help manage medications as part of an integrated team in a values-led, Christian environment. NZ/Aus citizenship or valid visa required.

Qualifications

• Experience in social services and/or related qualification preferred.
• Experience with homelessness or at-risk individuals.
• Strong communication and relationship skills.
• Competent in IT systems including Microsoft Office.
• Understanding of social justice, Te Tiriti, and relevant legislation.
• Alignment with Christian-based, values-led environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide practical support and coping strategies for residents in the Night shelter.
• Assist with medication management and patient care in collaboration with clinical staff.
• Work with a supportive residential team to deliver 24/7 care tailored to individual needs.
• Maintain clear records and contribute to a safe, respectful living environment for men.

About the Role

Permanent 40 hours per week, Friday to Tuesday, 4.30pm-12.30am.

You’ll be part of a supportive, integrated residential team providing practical support, coping strategies, and medication management for residents in our Night shelter. Our trained Support Workers work closely with clinical staff to deliver 24/7 care that meets the individual needs of men.

What You’ll Bring

• Experience working in social services and/or related qualification preferred
